AI trade secrets theft may become the next Netflix series. Google employs 182,501 full-time employees, and one of them, Linwei Ding, a software engineer, uploaded more than 500 unique files to his personal Google account (*not so smart after all, maybe).

He was affiliated with other Chinese companies while working at Google and started one of his own in China. He was then arrested at Newark Airport and faces four counts of theft of trade secrets, with each count carrying a potential 10-year prison term.

The Power Distribution in the AI Chip Industry

Three major players dominate the AI industry: NVIDIA, TSMC, and AMD. This may be an eye opener in which AI company to invest next.

NVIDIA (market cap: $2.2T) and AMD (market cap: $335B) are "fabless" companies, specializing in AI chip design rather than production.

TSMC (market cap: $650B) stands as the largest foundry (AI chip manufacturer) globally, producing AI chips for both NVIDIA and AMD.

It's projected that AMD's market share will reach 15-20% by the end of 2024. It seems that NVIDIA and AMD will share the AI chip design market while TSMC will dominate as the AI chip manufacturer.

Two lingering questions arise: What if China invades Taiwan? (extremely unlikely of course) and when will the $40 billion TSMC Arizona fab be completed? Although set for 2026, completion may occur later than anticipated.
