OpenAI Made Headlines This Week

After GPT-4’s Q&A functionality, GPT-4o feels like Jarvis in Ironman or Samantha in Her. The film Her might regain popularity now that the AI age has made Samantha a real possibility for the near future.

What once seemed impossible is now a reality. The robotics company Figure integrated GPT-4o with its robot, Figure 1, and the results are surprisingly good.

Ilya Sutskever and the Superalignment Team

The other side of the coin is that many of the top executives of OpenAI have departed from the company, including Ilya Sutskever, leading to the dissolution of the Superalignment team.

OpenAI is the company closest to building AGI. Now, the question is whether they will be able to create leading human-centered AI products without risking the safety of users and the world.

GPT-4o is expected to drive further growth for OpenAI, as the company has made the latest version open to everyone with the same capabilities as GPT-4 but with a limitation on the number of uses.

• Ilya Sutskever and a Number of Top Executives Resign from OpenAI. Ilya Sutskever, one of the co-founders and the Chief Research Scientist of OpenAI, has resigned right after ChatGPT-4o was launched. He praised OpenAI’s team, the development of the company, and the road ahead. He was one of the people who voted for Sam Altman’s ousting. He will be working on his own project, which he has not yet announced.

• OpenAI’s Superalignment Team is now dissolved. Both Ilya Sutskever, the director of the Superalignment program, and Jan Leike, the co-leader of the Superalignment program, have resigned this week from OpenAI.
