How come Google was able to achieve this scale?

Google is the leading company in AI, theoretically. They were working on AI extensively way before OpenAI was founded. They are the ones to create the transformer architecture, which OpenAI is using for LLMs and GPT.

The only mistake they made was focusing less on business, and more on theory, thinking that they had time before commercializing it. That’s what OpenAI did after 5 years of existence. So, they caught Google unprepared.
